Kazimierz World Wine Bar will host a benefit concert for Valley singer Dennis Rowland on Thursday, Feb. 28.

Scheduled for 7 p.m. to midnight, the show will feature sets from local performers (among them, Blaise Lantana, Ryan Sims, Walt Richardson, Judy Roberts and Margo Reed) and a silent auction. All proceeds from auction items, donations and the $5 cover charge will go directly to Rowland, who is recovering from a stroke he suffered on Dec. 19, 2012.

A well-known jazz vocalist in the Valley, Rowland was the voice of the Count Basie Orchestra in the 1970s. Until his stroke, he performed regularly at venues all over the Valley.

A little more than two months after his stroke, Rowland “is a walking miracle,” writes his wife, Sydney Blaine, in an email.

“Dennis is still at risk, but is working hard every day to recover, with the guidance of amazing therapists and doctors. They are truly the A-Team; dedicated, talented, brilliant.

“Recovery will take time, a lot of time, but Dennis is supported in this journey with volumes of love, prayers and healing energy being sent his way,” she writes.

Kazimierz World Wine Bar is at 7137 E. Stetson Drive, Scottsdale. For information on the concert, call (480) 946-3004.
