“Iron Chef” for florists? It’s what you might call The Sylvia Cup Floral Design Competition, and you can see it free Sept. 21 in Chandler.

Top floral designers will be given two hours, the same amount of flowers and supplies, and a surprise task to create a winning floral display. It runs 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Sept. 21 at Sheraton Wild Horse Pass Resort.

Another part of the gathering worth peeking in on: the Outstanding Flower Varieties Competition. More than 5,000 roses, lilies, chrysanthemums, hydrangeas and other plants and flowers will be on display for evaluation by expert judges — and the general public.

That show is 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday, Sept. 19 and 20.

Events are free. For information, call (602) 225-0100 or visit AboutFlowers.com or WildHorsePassResort.com.
