A stop at TheBloggess.com typically leaves us laughing out loud or asking, somewhat uncomfortably, “What the ... ?”
That’s what Jenny Lawson, author of the popular blog, does best: irreverent satire that leaves readers alternately baffled, appalled or flat-out guffawing.
An Internet sensation who also writes three online columns (one about parenting), Lawson is a newly minted book author, too. She visits Aug. 11 at Changing Hands Bookstore with her No. 1 New York Times Bestselling debut, “Let’s Pretend This Never Happened.”
In the book, Lawson, a Texan, takes readers through the mortifying moments that have shaped her. Chapter names lend a clue to the kind of bizarre storytelling and sardonic wit readers are in for, including “Stanley the Magical, Talking Squirrel,” “A Series of Angry Post-It Notes to My Husband,” and “And Then I Snuck a Dead Cuban Alligator on an Airplane.”
Tickets to the event are free when you buy the book from Changing Hands. Ticket holders will be called by assigned letter group to fill seats one hour before the event and form the signing line after the presentation. Seating opens 15 minutes before the event to those without books purchased at the store.
DETAILS >> 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 11. Changing Hands Bookstore, 6428 S. McClintock Drive, Tempe. Tickets are free with purchase of the book ($25.95) from Changing Hands. (480) 730-0205 or ChangingHands.com.
