As the Valley’s fight against the summer heat enters its final leg, another battle has begun — the Gelato Wars. Throughout August, 10 Valley chefs are competing to find the next best flavor of Italian ice cream — and customers get to be the judge.

For the remainder of the month, the Gelato Spot locations in Phoenix, on Camelback and Greenway roads, and in Old Town Scottsdale will offer 10 unique flavors, concocted by chefs such as Keenan Bosworth from Pig & Pickle, Gio Osso of Virtu, Matt Carter of the Mission and Zinc Bistro and Tracy Dempsey, who won last year’s competition, of Tracy Dempsey Originals in Tempe.

The flavor that sells the most throughout August wins. The winning chef will receive a custom gelato trophy, $500 in cash and a $5,000 check in their name to Make-A-Wish Arizona.
