The winter holidays will be a little less silver, a little more gold, and all glamour this year, if what we’re seeing in stores is any indication.
Yes, we know it’s only November, but East Valley stores are already stocking their shelves with holiday decor and the “it” color this year is gold, which isn’t that surprising, with warm metallic finishes making a comeback in home interior design.
Debbie Poulsen, owner of Bella Finé in Mesa, is excited about the gold and brown combinations she will have for her centerpiece floral arrangements, wreaths and garlands this season.
“Metals are huge, huge, huge,” she says. “Browns, especially chocolate brown, coppers, golds. And, believe it or not, pearl is really big, too.”
In her store, she’ll feature a variety of pearl ornaments for the tree.
Kathleen Strand of Strand Interior Design, who also owns Around the Corner boutique in Scottsdale, agrees that brown and gold will be the popular combination of the year.
She also says to expect a lot of sparkle as you shop for decorations. Poulsen agrees.
“It’s about all that glitters,” she says.
Trees of all shapes and sizes will be popular, too, Strand says — some free-standing, others for the tabletop.
Mirrored, sparkly, made of glass, Strand says there are many options.
“I’ve even seen them in some showrooms hanging upside down from the ceiling and fully decorated,” says Strand.
