Michael Jackson’s red “Beat It” jacket. Handwritten George Harrison lyrics. Jimi Hendrix’s Gibson Flying V guitar.
These are among the items culled from the Hard Rock Cafe’s massive memorabilia vault for a 40th anniversary music memorabilia tour stopping Saturday in the Valley.
The trailer full of goods includes instruments, apparel and personal items from some of the most memorable names in music. Among the items are Malcom Young’s 1959 Gretsch White Falcon guitar (used on ACDC’s “Back in Black” and “For Those About to Rock” tours), Slash’s Gibson Les Paul guitar (from Guns ’n’ Roses’ “Use Your Illusion” tour), Madonna’s “Like a Virgin” wedding gown, and stage outfits from Freddie Mercury, Peter Frampton and Steven Tyler. Justin Bieber, Katy Perry and Snoop Dogg also have items in the show.
The truck stops at downtown Phoenix’s Hard Rock Cafe for one day only, and it’s free to tour. It will be surrounded by a street party featuring live music from Chicks with Picks and Sludge’s Build a Band. Radio station 93.3 KDKB will host a remote broadcast and give out prizes, and you’ll find a tie-dye booth, a beer garden and activities with the Phoenix Mercury.
