Breaking out the swimsuit and floaties in December is a little weird. Throw in swimming with a big old guy with a white beard and a Hawaiian shirt, and the quirk quotient nudges even higher.
But we say embrace the oddity and join the East Valley tradition that is Swimming With Santa.
The annual post-Christmas party at Kiwanis Park Recreation Center in Tempe brings Santa and Mrs. Claus to the facility’s heated, indoor wave pool.
Kids can ride the waves with St. Nick 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. He and Mrs. Claus will also sing, tell stories, play games and do magic during their visit. Complimentary cookies and milk, and the opportunity to win raffle prizes, are included.
Families are invited to stay after the Clauses leave and enjoy the pool until 5 p.m.
It’s a popular event that fills up fast, so get there early if you want a shot at getting in the door.
