BALTIMORE - Former Hollywood lobbyist Jack Valenti has checked out of a hospital, weeks after being treated for a stroke, a hospital official said Wednesday.

Valenti, 85, who had been at Johns Hopkins University Medical Center since March, checked out Tuesday, Hopkins spokesman Eric Vohr said.

No further information was being released, he said, and Valenti's condition was unknown.

Valenti's office in Washington referred questions to the Motion Picture Association of America, the trade group he headed for 38 years until retiring in 2004. MPAA spokesman Seth Oster said Valenti's family was releasing no other details.

Valenti is the former president of the MPAA, where he devised the ratings system for films. He also served as an adviser to President Lyndon Johnson.
