Oh, John Mayer. On one hand, he’s the sensitive, bluesy singer-songwriter with pop-rock hits mild enough to be palatable to your parents. Think “Half of My Heart,” his new single with squeaky-clean Taylor Swift. On the other, Mayer’s a tabloid staple known for botched romances with starlets, abundant Twitter posts and giving way too much information in now-infamous Rolling Stone and Playboy magazine interviews.

Electropop group Owl City opens for Mayer — who’s also toyed with stand-up comedy, his own TV show and writing for magazines — later this week in Phoenix.

>> John Mayer will perform 7 p.m. Wednesday at Cricket Wireless Pavilion, 2121 N. 83rd Ave., Phoenix. $36-$69.50. (602) 254-7200 or www.livenation.com.
