The usual Christmas fare not ringing your bell this year?
Consider “Sister’s Christmas Catechism: The Mystery of the Magi’s Gold.”
The one-woman show stars Patti Hannon as “Sister,” a tart-tongued, ruler-wielding Catholic school nun who rules her classroom — the audience — with an iron fist.
In an unusually jolly mood, Sister teaches her students the story of Christmas and asks for their help to solve a holiday caper: Who swiped the gold that the three wise men gave to the Baby Jesus?
With lots of room for improv in the script — and Hannon’s gift for detecting and calling out even the tiniest infractions against decorum and decency by the audience — each performance is unique.
Hannon, who’s played the teaching nun thousands of times from New York City to Scottsdale, sharpened her comedic skills at Second City, Chicago’s legendary comedy lab.
