Arizona State University senior Jaime Hammer admits her obsession with appearing on the pages of Playboy magazine began with her first visit to Hugh Hefner’s storied mansion at the age of 17.

At the Midsummer Night’s Dream Pajama Party, Hammer and her grammar school friends, dressed in vintage black slips, stood out among the bevy of buxom blondes dressed in skimpy bras and panties.

"When we walked in we were totally overdressed, but we still had fun," the petite brunette said. "I was totally awestruck by the whole thing, and then a light bulb sort of went off in my head."

Hammer, now 21, silently vowed to someday make it into the magazine. Four years later, she’s the first Arizona State University coed to grace the cover of the magazine’s College Girls edition, which hits newsstands March 30.

When Playboy held an open casting call at Sanctuary in Scottsdale, the Chicago native’s "girl-next-door" look and her black Rocket Dog flip-flops set her apart from the exotic dancers in stiletto heels.

"She had a look and a presence and an energy I saw when we first interviewed her," said Jeff Cohen, executive editor and publisher of Playboy’s special editions. "I was so pleased with the first shooting I immediately decided to put her on the cover."

Playboy has a long history with Arizona’s public universities. ASU has frequently been a fixture on the top party school list despite the best efforts of university administrators to revamp the school’s reputation. And other ASU coeds have posed for the magazine.

Hammer, a communications major, is waiting to what effect the spread will have on her future in entertainment, but she is certain it will make her a local celebrity.

"Last week my friends and I were standing in line waiting to get into the Pussycat Lounge," Hammer said. "I told them to meet me here in three weeks and we’ll see how long we have to wait in line."
