If you haven’t been inside a museum in awhile, there’s no better excuse to check one out than International Museum Day.

Held worldwide around May 18 every year since 1977, it’s a promotion by the International Council of Museums to increase public awareness of the role of museums in developing society.

What that means for you is deals and discounts at museums right here in our neck of the woods. Among the Arizona participants are Desert Caballeros Western Museum (free admission May 18), Heard Museum (two-for-one admissions May 18 at Phoenix and north Scottsdale locations), Musical Instrument Museum ($5 off regular admission 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. May 19), Pueblo Grande Museum (free admission May 18) and the Superstition Mountain Museum (free admission May 18).

Call your local museum directly to find out if it offers any special deals in honor of International Museum Day.
