Picking out a pumpkin is a Halloween tradition. And if your search for the perfect pumpkin goes beyond a grocery store’s produce section, then the Great Pumpkin Festival at the Desert Botanical Garden is a great place to find one, says Katy Landry, special events manager for the garden.

And if your search for the perfect pumpkin goes beyond a grocery store’s produce section, then the Great Pumpkin Festival at the Desert Botanical Garden is a great place to find one, says Katy Landry, special events manager for the garden.

“If you live in the Valley,” she says, “you don’t have to go very far to find your perfect pumpkin.”

For six years, Desert Botanical Garden has provided Valley children the chance to take a hayride to a pumpkin patch and pick their own pumpkin.

The festival, which has added a third day this year, also features a hay bale maze, jack-o’-lantern carving workshops, food and live entertainment.

Although these other events provide “something for everyone,” Landry says the pumpkin picking is by far the most popular part. “There is something exciting about a pumpkin when you’re a child,” she says. “The thing about living out here, is we don’t see the change in season. There is something about this event that helps create that atmosphere of fall and Halloween.”
