Take a music fest, add massive amounts of hot and saucy fried chicken, and you get Wingstock.

On Saturday, restaurants from across the Valley will try to de-throne 2011 “King of Wings” champion, Tempe’s NY Boyz Subz and Wings, at the festival in Mesa.

The outdoor wing-eating smorgasboard includes live entertainment from bands Pete and the Shortcummings, Johnny Anonymous and Darkness Dear Boy, plus bounce houses and games for kids.

Participating restaurants include Diamonds Sports Grille, Long Wong’s on Stapley, Native New Yorker, Cactus Moon, Jimbo’s Good Time Grill, The Tilted Kilt, Teakwoods Tavern & Grill, Cogburn’s Big Wings, and Fat Willy’s Family Sports Grill.

Attendees can sign up for a contest to see who can eat the most wings in seven minutes, or watch Mesa and Gilbert firefighters face off in a similar challenge.

Arrive early for a 10:30 a.m. children’s egg hunt with festival mascot HENdrix — a friendly person in a white chicken costume. Kids 10 and younger get into the festival free with a paid adult.
