As he looked for work and his next meal in 1930s America, folk musician and Dust Bowl refugee Woody Guthrie sang the stories of a nation determined to survive the Great Depression. The musical stage production “Woody Guthrie’s American Song” celebrates the man and the music Americans came to know by heart.

>> “Woody Guthrie’s American Song” opens with a preview performance 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Herberger Theater Center, 222 E. Monroe St., Phoenix. It runs through Jan. 16, 2011. $35-$69. (602) 256-6995 or arizonatheatre.org.
