The Phoenix Symphony is looking for a female vocalist to sing alongside the actor known for playing one of the most famous characters in musical theater.

Franc D’Ambrosio, best known for nearly 3,000 performances as the half-crazed, disfigured musical genius in “The Phantom of the Opera,” will sing Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “All I Ask of You” at a December concert in Scottsdale. The song was made famous by Webber’s 1986 stage version of the French novel by Gaston Leroux.

The Phoenix Symphony is asking Arizona girls, ages 8 to 18, to audition for the chance to sing at the event as Christine, the musical’s female lead.

“We’re not looking for just anyone. We are looking for that special someone who can light up a room and fill the air with beautiful music,” said symphony president Maryellen Gleason in a press release.

The contest, dubbed “Call for Christine,” will award one vocalist the chance to sing with D’Ambrosio at the Symphony Gala held New Year’s Eve at the Westin Kierland Resort and Spa. The annual event is a fundraiser for cultural and artistic programs in Arizona.

Candidates must submit a recording of “All I Ask of You” and a song of their choice to the Phoenix Symphony by Oct. 8. The recording may be formatted for CD, DVD, VHS, QuickTime or Windows Media Player.

A panel of symphony members and music industry professionals will listen to each recording and choose finalists to perform in front of a group of celebrity judges on Nov. 8. The judges will select a winner.

In addition to performing alongside D’Ambrosio at the year-end gala, the winner will earn season tickets to the Phoenix Symphony Classics Series, a monetary gift and vocal coaching lessons.

Detailed contest information and entry forms are available at www.phoenixsymphony.org.
