In an ongoing effort to raise funds for the expansion of the Mesa Historical Museum’s Cactus League History Exhibit, “Play Ball: the Cactus League Experience,” three former baseball stars, including a Hall of Famer, will participate in an autograph fundraiser on Saturday. March 28
Hall of Fame pitcher and former Cubs great Ferguson “Fergie” Jenkins and former baseball stars Lee Smith and Ray Fosse will sign autographs at the Mesa Historical Museum, 2345 N. Horne St. for $15 apiece.
Fosse, a former catcher for the Cleveland Indians, Oakland A’s and Milwaukee Brewers, will sign autographs from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., and Smith, who played for the San Francisco Giants and Chicago Cubs and Jenkins, will sign from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Also, on Monday, former Major League pitcher Marty Pattin will sign autographs at 12:15 p.m. at Surprise Stadium, 15960 N. Bullard Ave., to benefit the museum.
Autographs for Pattin, who played for the Seattle Pilots in 1969 when the expansion team trained at Tempe Diablo Stadium, will be $10 each.
Proceeds from the fundraiser will benefit the museum’s ongoing baseball exhibit, dedicated to the history of spring training in Arizona. The exhibit is a precursor to an independent museum planned to open within three to five years.
