Bras are the central focus of a fundraiser and National Domestic Violence Awareness Month kickoff going on Saturday at Mesa Community College.
Called “Karma Cups: An Uplifting Affair,” the event features a fashion show — put on by local nonprofit fashion proponent Phoenix Runway — of uniquely decorated bras submitted from all over the world via a design contest.
Off the runway, the event will feature wellness exhibitors offering everything from yoga demonstrations and body wraps to haircuts and chair massages. Jewelry and craft vendors, children’s activities, raffles and silent auctions are also planned.
A live musical lineup includes the jazzy Vandal/Hancock Trio, blues duo Mikel Lander and Meridith Moore, and local singers Jeordie White and Chava Cannon.
Money raised at the event will benefit three local charities: The Bravery Project, where domestic violence survivors tell their story through art; Bosom Buddy Bra Recycling, which distributes new and used bras to women in shelters, transitional housing and developing countries; and National Advocacy and Training Network, which provides training and education for homeless, battered and sexually abused women in recovery and runs the Cup O’ Karma coffee shop in Mesa.

What: Uniquely decorated bras are paraded down the runway in a fashion show by Phoenix Runway. Plus, there’s music, food, artwork, jewelry and pampering services like massages and manicures.

Cost: $10 to $12 for adults, or $5 with the donation of an unused bra; $1 for kids younger than 12
