Classical guitarist and composer Mark Cruz of Austin, Texas, will give a concert at 2 p.m. Dec. 26 at Apache Wells Community Church, 2115 N. Gayridge Road, Mesa.
A native of Oklahoma, Cruz earned a bachelor of music in guitar performance degree from Oklahoma City University and later his master’s in the same discipline from Texas State University in San Marcos, where he is a professor of guitar. The University of Arizona School of Music awarded him second place in its national composition contest for solo guitar for his now-published work, “Trilogy for Guitar.” His choral music has been published by Shawnee Press and others. Most recently, he took first place in an Austin Classical Guitar Society composition contest for a second year in a row for his guitar quartet, this year for his work “Prism.”
