Think of living legends, and retired sports figures, aging newsmen or beloved screen stars may come to mind.
Seldom does one picture an indigenous warrior from Fiji or an Ojibwe medicine man. But these are the sort of characters who spring to life in "Seasons," a 90-minute show at 7 p.m. Thursday to Queen Creek Performing Arts Center.
A production of Brigham Young University's Living Legends performance troupe, the show celebrates Latin American, Native American and Polynesian cultures through 22 song and dance vignettes. The high-energy segments aim to remind audiences of the beauty, customs and values of ancient civilizations through intricate costumes and traditional music. Segments of the show include Native American Hoop and Fancy dances, an Aztec ritual from Mexico, a Samoan slap dance and the legend of a Hawaiian goddess.
Originally formed to preserve traditional Native American music and dance, Living Legends performances now includes Bolivian, Ecuadoran, Guatemalan, Tongan, Maori and Tahitian cultures, among others.
The group tours worldwide. In April and May, it will perform in Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay.
