Massages, facials, chocolate and charity. This summer, the Phoenix-based Fresh Start Women’s Foundation teamed up with six local spas for a summerlong fundraiser called the “Summer Spaaah Series.”

This Saturday, the event will make a stop in Scottsdale at the Hotel Valley Ho’s VH Spa to pamper 150 patrons for a good cause.

The sold-out event will offer 10-minute treatments, including acupuncture facials, hand and foot scrubs, manicures, pedicures and chair massages. Spagoers will also enjoy samples from the chocolate buffet at $10 a person.

“Its a great way for people to relax, get a quick treatment, just enjoy chocolate and make a day out of it,” said Kristin Roberts of the hotel’s spa.

The proceeds from the event go to the Fresh Start Women’s Foundation. Since 1990, the nonprofit has been helping empower local women. The group provides resources for women who are in a transitional period in their lives, suffering from domestic violence or just need resources, said Kathy Starses, of the foundation. “We’re like onestop shopping for resources for women,” she said.

The foundation provides legal services, mentoring, education, personal development, relationship help, job readiness and self-esteem coaching to about 2,000 women a month, 500 of whom are new to the facility. While this year’s “Spaaah Series” is sold out, Starses said its popularity has been so overwhelming that they are planning to bring it back next year.

“This has been a delight,” she said. “I think it’s so important for us women to take time to pamper ourselves.”
