There’s nothing like a tall, cold draught beer on a sizzling August day. But what if you could go on a date, learn a little beer-related science and history, and enjoy your cold brews all at the same time? Exactly — Score!

This Friday’s Adults’ Night Out at Arizona Science Center is an all-around winner. Starting at 5:30 p.m., anyone 18 or older can explore the multifloor Science Center for free, including the new MathAlive! exhibit.

At 7 p.m., “The Biology of Beer” lecture immerses aspiring brewmasters in the 5,000-year history of fermentation and explains how the studies of molecular biology, microbiology, and biochemistry flowed out of the art of beer-making.

Finally, guests 21 and older (ID required) are invited to the “Beer Lab” where Valley brewers including Gordon Biersch and Rock Bottom will offer samplings and demonstrations on brewing processes. A cash bar and live music from the BluesHounds top off the evening.

DETAILS >> 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 3. Arizona Science Center, 600 E. Washington St., Phoenix. General admission is free; beer sampling is $17 for members and $19 for non-members and includes 10 sampling tickets; a $4 discount is available with pre-registration.
