From “Someone to Watch Over Me” to “I Will Survive,” the story of women is told through more than 50 Top 40 tunes in the musical “RESPECT: A Musical Journey of Women.” Created by Vanderbilt — and former Arizona State University — professor Dorothy Marcic, the Chicago Tribune called it a cross between “Oprah” and “Mamma Mia!” The show is based on Marcic’s book, “RESPECT: Women and Popular Music,” in which she analyzed all Top 40 female song lyrics since 1900.
