Our first 100-degree weekend may have you heading indoors, but that doesn’t mean you have to feel bound by four walls and a ceiling.
A fun exhibition for the whole family encourages imaginations to soar at Arizona Museum for Youth.
The hands-on Mesa venue features “Wing It! Things That Fly” through May 6, a show that showcases humans’ collective fascination with the creatures, inventions and fantasies that allow us — or our minds, at least — to venture into the wide blue yonder.
Among the show’s interactive features is a “Flying Over Mesa” activity that uses green screen technology and costumes to let kids feel like they’re flying over the city. There’s also a paper plane launcher, an airplane cockpit simulator, a glow-in-the-dark campground that focuses on nature’s nighttime flyers (bats, owls, night hawks, fireflies, moths), and an Eagles Nook, where visitors can see live footage of eagles in nature. Additionally, you’ll find a butterfly-themed puppet theatre and a Create Your Own Dragon activity.
Admission includes access to all of the museum, including an outdoor atrium with varied daily activities, and the stimulating ArtZone and ArtVille interactive spaces for youngsters.
