OFFICIAL TITLE: Ordinance No. 5107 - An Ordinance of the City Council of the City of Mesa, Maricopa County, Arizona, proposing to amend Section 201 (F) of the Mesa City Charter to state that if less than three (3) candidates file nominating petitions, qualifying as candidates for the Office of Mayor or District Councilmember, the Primary Election will be dispensed with for that office and the candidates will appear on the ballot for the General Election.
DESCRIPTIVE TITLE: Amend the Mesa City Charter to enable the City to forego the Primary Election for the Office of Mayor or District Councilmember if less than three (3) candidates file nominating petitions, qualifying as candidates, for that office and the office(s) will be filled at the General Election.
A “YES” vote shall have the effect of amending the City Charter to dispense with the Primary Election for Mayor or District Councilmember if less than three (3) candidates file nominating petitions, qualifying as candidates, for that office and provide that the office(s) will be filled at the General Election.
A “NO” vote shall have the effect of retaining the existing Charter language, which requires a Primary Election if less than three (3) candidates file nominating petitions for the Office of Mayor or District Councilmember.
