"I am running for the State Senate to help bring about a forward looking Legislature that focuses on attracting good, high paying jobs to Arizona. As a retired small business owner and former elected official, I know the necessity of innovative thinking in balancing budgets and successfully completing projects. The Tea Party Republican majority has steered a short-sighted economic course and pursued a radical, intrusive social agenda. Lawmakers wasted valuable time on birther bills and self-serving political gamesmanship, not on bills to help bring us out of the recession. I will stress public education as the single most important element in Arizona's future economic growth. We must prepare our kids to compete at the highest levels. A first step will be restoring the 5,000-plus teaching jobs that were cut. In the past four years legislators abandoned Arizona's middle class, too often adopting a ‘you're-on-your-own' attitude. Citizens distrust the Legislature. A majority party that blocked ethical reforms and diverted foreclosure aid is one that just doesn't get it. As a Vietnam veteran I know that struggles require perseverance, cooperation and focus. That's how I'll approach service as your State Senator. I will fight for fairness, moderation and common sense. Always."
