Which East Valley School District will spend $400M over the next 5 years without a long range Strategic Plan? The Higley District. Yet all of Higley’s neighboring school districts and Towns/Cities have one.
A strategic plan defines the direction of an organization and how it will use its resources. Refreshed yearly, it has great value to a government entity such as a School District because the creation and planning process is almost as important as the end product. Creating a strategic plan promotes the involvement of all stakeholders such as parents, teachers, PTOs, local businesses, sports leagues, HOAs, and Towns/Cities. In Higley’s case a strategic plan could begin a Culture Shift to promote broader involvement, listening, best practices, and a better sense of community because all stakeholder input is valued. Higley doesn’t need to spend $100k on creating a strategic plan either. As a candidate for the Governing Board, I’ve found a well respected Phoenix based organization that will guide Higley and stakeholders through the process of developing and using a strategic plan for free.
Come Nov 6th, all stakeholders in the Higley School District deserve a Governing Board with the business and leadership experience to bring tools such as a Strategic Plan to life. That plan will allow the taxpayers and stakeholders to have a say in how money will be spent and clearly see the resulting plan and direction on the District’s website.
