The Highland/ASU Jazz Festival is dedicated to educate and inspire students, educators, and audiences; and to enhance the appreciation and importance of jazz education.

This year, the ASU/Highland Jazz Festival is pleased to have the following guest jazz musicians in concert.

Friday:

Byron Stripling: A spectacular trumpeter with a very wide range, a beautiful tone, and the ability to blend together many influences into his own style, Byron Stripling is also the artistic director of the Columbus Jazz Orchestra, leader of his own quartet, and constantly in demand to play with pops orchestras around the world.

Saturday:

Rufus Reid: One of today’s premiere bassists on the international jazz scene, with his reputation firmly established in the education arena, now adds composition to his vitae. He has written for string orchestra, jazz ensembles large and small, concert band, double bass ensemble pieces and a solo bass composition.  In addition, Rufus’ book, The Evolving Bassist, published since 1974, continues to be recognized as the industry standard as the definitive bass method.
