Think you don’t have the space or resources to grow a garden in the Valley’s desert? Maybe you do, and just don’t realize it.
Arizona Science Center and Chipotle Mexican Grill have joined forces to explore this topic, along with other food-related questions, during their Chew on This! film and lecture series. On Saturday, Nov. 17, Chew on This! will screen Truck Farm, a film that explores urban agriculture and sustainability, while documenting the creation of the first “truck farm.”
After the film, the team from Truck Farm Phoenix will be on-hand to showcase their mobile farming creation and answer questions about their efforts to educate Valley residents. Truck Farm Phoenix is one of dozens of truck farms in urban centers nationwide. Planted on Oct. 22, it will travel to schools, festivals, markets and more to enlighten kids and adults, alike.
The monthly series will continue in 2013, with a screening of The Loraxon Jan. 19. Future topics include organics and the recent decline in the bee population. The full schedule of films and lectures is available online at azscience.org. Events are free.
