PHOENIX (AP) — Phoenix police are attempting to reassure south Phoenix residents that investigators are working to hunt down the man responsible for a recent sexual assault on a 17-year-old girl.

Police told residents Thursday that three girls including the teenager have been sexually assaulted by the same man over the last few months.

KTVK-TV reports in each case the girls were walking to or from school when a man forced the girls into abandoned homes.

The South Mountain Precinct commander told the crowd to allow their children to carry phones and avoid letting their kids walk alone or linger in front of abandoned homes.

Phoenix police say the 17-year-old was on her way to South Mountain High School Monday morning when a man forced her into a vacant home at knifepoint.
