Underneath those bushy eyebrows and that shaggy hairdo is one cute little bundle of energy and personality. His name is Riley, and he’s a year-old terrier mix.

He’s the kind of dog you fall for instantly, say rescuers. He’s friendly, smart and eager to please. He makes friends fast and loves playing with other dogs. When it comes to people, he adores belly rubs, chin scratches, ear scratches and snuggling. He often rests his head on a person’s shoulder and drifts off to sleep.

Riley’s foster family says he’s also a hardy little dog who makes a perfect exercise companion. He’s got a lot of energy to burn, and he’s enthusiastic about whatever they throw at him, from long walks along the canal and runs through the neighborhood to hikes in the nearby mountains or laps around the dog park.

They say he rides well in a car, is doing great on a leash, and successfully performs basic commands like sit, stay and shake hands. He’s housetrained and crate trained.

Rescuers think Riley would excel at agility training, learning tricks or puppy obedience classes, if his new owner is interested in doing those things. His ideal family will be active and committed to spending time with him, both around the house and outside on little exercise adventures.
