NANTUCKET, Mass. — Mitt Romney joins other observant Mormons in shunning alcohol and coffee. He apparently draws the line at ice cream.

The Republican presidential candidate ordered coffee ice cream at Millie's restaurant in Nantucket Saturday when he bought treats for his staff and mingled with diners. His aides selected flavors including vanilla, rocky road, butter pecan and birthday cake ice cream.

It's not clear that Romney took more than a bite or two as he shook hands and posed for pictures in the crowded and buzzing vacation eatery.

Mormons traditionally avoid alcohol and caffeine.

Romney aides shrugged off the selection, saying the candidate can have whatever kind of ice cream he likes.

The Mormon scripture does not say "coffee" it says "hot drinks." Doctrine and Covenants 89:9 "And again, hot drinks are not for the body or belly."

Anyone that believes "hot drinks" includes ice cream is a moron.

    JohnLaBounty,
According to what I've read, "you people" change your story about "hot drink" vs caffine to suit the situation.
Your zeal to defend Romney smacks of that old persecution complex "you" cult members have.
Who cares if he eats ice cream? No intelligent, thinking person would vote for Romney anyway, unless they are totally ignorant of the Mormon cult.

I see the downtown liberal is trying to take over the liberal/progressive bully spot from the Enraged One. Nothing but hate and name calling from these two.

He ate coffee ice cream?! Oh, no!!!

Next, we'll see him shocked to learn that Mountain Dew has caffeine!!

(Can I have the last 5 minutes of my time back, from this idiocy? Yes, I'm aware of the irony!)

I agree, this is a non-issue and a waste of reading time.

On another note, it is truly a shame that chatmandu002 is too much of a sniveling coward to address any of the real issues, and instead sneaks around making personal attacks on people.

    Shameful. But not surprising. ;)

This is about as amusing as the no caffine rule for soft drinks EXCEPT for Pepsi which the Mormon church owns. :-)

Wrong. Myth. Not true. Never has been. No truth at all. Ever. Get a life...

But, I have always found it odd that the LDS teaching about "hot drink" and caffeine doesn't seem to extend to hot chocolate, which is a mainstay at LDS gatherings in winter.
