WASHINGTON — House Republicans have filed a bill to deny automatic citizenship to children born in the U.S. to illegal immigrants.
The bill is similar to legislation introduced in the last Congress, which stalled in committee.
However the latest bill has been filed as a group of state lawmakers are trying to advance state legislation regarding birthright citizenship.
The bill's chief sponsors include Iowa Rep. Steve King who could soon be chairman of a House subcommittee that oversees immigration and citizenship.
U.S.-born children of illegal immigrants are considered citizens under the 14th Amendment of the Constitution. The bill would alter immigration law to prevent such children from earning citizenship based on birth in the U.S.

The citizenship of the child should be that of the birth mother....period. . That's the law in other countries.
If only one parent needs to be an american citizen or green card holder, then these mothers would only have to name such a person as the father. We don't have the resources to do DNA testing on the "named" father and the child and that will provide more loop holes for illegal mothers.

You make a good point Richka. unfortunately we aren't going to be able to make this law retroactive even if we can get it past this obamanation. He's an anti-American, open border, Marxist bent on destroying America as it was founded. In fact, most of the dumbocRATS are marxists. Hopefully, we may find allies in democrats who wish to be reelected to another term of office, giving us a possibility of an override.

rrjenn...At least this is a step in the right direction. After passage of the bill, the flow of pregnant mexican women will slow down. So far they have a pretty good thing going for them. By having another "citizen" child every year, they benefit from food stamps, cash welfare, health care, WIC, free education and housing assistance (even if 10 other illegals live in the same household), They live better in the US than they did in Mexico. Their business is making babies and it's pretty lucrative considering the boyfriend/husband lives with them, works under the table, but his income does not count toward the family income. Some people say that they are uneducated, but when it comes to fleecing the american tax payers, they are very savvy.

I support changing the 14th amendment so that illegals can no longer abuse it as it is outdated and was intended for slaves, NOT illegal aliens. Come to America legally or do not come at all. VIVA SB1070!

That figures EmperorSmith. I can relate to people who are political refuges from repressive countries like China.

"The bill's chief sponsors include Iowa Rep. Steve King who could soon be chairman of a House subcommittee that oversees immigration and citizenship." -- It did my heart good when I read that...

Actually, political refugees (once proven) usually are given citizenship.
