Mesa Mayor Scott Smith will be part of a signing ceremony at the White House on Friday, when President Barack Obama will sign a two-year transportation bill. Smith, vice president of the U.S. Conference of Mayors, has advocated for a variety of infrastructure investment and has supported Transportation Bill 4348.
The Senate voted 74-19 in favor of the bill, and the House approved it 373-52. The bill is designed to repair deteriorating roads and bridges.
“The passage of a transportation bill has long been a top priority of the nation’s mayors and we thank Congress for working together to accomplish this task,” Smith said.

First, I have always seen Scott Smith more in-line with "old-school" conservatives, than with what passes for conservatism today. As such, he is much more pragmatic than most "neo-conservative" Republicans. And in this way, he is much better. He realizes that the best way to accomplish things is to work with everyone, not just those that already share your opinion. The United States was founded through compromise (read the history behind both the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution). Dustbowl, I agree with you heartily about repairing our infrastructure. It is badly needed and not pork.
