A Mesa man is facing charges of hit and run and failure to stop for law enforcement officers after he is accused of hitting at least three cars in the parking lot of a Flagstaff Wal-Mart moments before fleeing police.
Gary Wallace, 25, is being held in the Coconino County Jail and Detention Facility on $1,815 bond while awaiting an initial court appearance, according to county jail records.
Wallace was believed to be living in his car for several days in the parking lot of the store, and was arrested Friday morning soon after a number of witnesses called 911 to report that a man was driving erratically in its parking lot before striking the vehicles.
According to what a witness told Flagstaff police, Wallace pulled his car into the parking lot of the nearby Courtyard Marriot after the alleged incident at the Wal-Mart where police say he sped up and led them on a pursuit. As Wallace pulled onto Beulah Boulevard, he was quickly caught in traffic. Wallace then fled on foot before he was detained by an officer, according to police.
Police described Wallace as hostile and he refused to take a field sobriety test, although initial indications were that Wallace was not intoxicated.
