A Mesa man who made an initial filing to run in the Nov. 8 recall election against Arizona Senate President Russell Pearce has decided against running for the post.
Tommy Cattey said Friday that he dropped out of the race because he wasn't getting enough endorsements and campaign contributions.
The registered Independent said he was concerned that if he remained in the race he might split the vote of those opposing Pearce.
Cattey said he endorses Repulican Jerry Lewis, the only other candidate running against Pearce.
Recall organizers have been critical of Pearce's immigration views and say he has hasn't focused on protecting public education and ensuring access to health care.
Pearce has said he strives to promote schools, job creation, balanced budgets, and secure borders.
