Legislation that would require children younger than 8 years old or under 4-feet-9-inches tall to sit in a booster seat when riding in a vehicle passed out of the state House late Thursday. HB 2154 will now move to the Senate for consideration.

“This is a huge stride forward in protecting Arizona’s children,” said Linda Gorman, spokeswoman for AAA Arizona. “We commend the House of Representatives for their efforts in helping close the loophole in our current state law, as well as Rep. (Lori) McClain for championing this life-saving legislation.”

Booster seats, dog leashes? How long before they pass a law telling me how to hang my toilet paper? "It rolled, top down, not bottom up, and he was stuck on the toilet, He stood up to force it and slipped. His head hit the tiled floor, we need this life saving legislation, TP must roll bottom up, let's pass that." It isn't government, and it really shouldn't be law. It's a mentally ill aberration. An obsessive adoration of triviality. This isn't government, it's mental illness.

Interesting argument, trigama - you feel that children should die because they are dumb?

One look at your spelling and punctuation is enough to make me inclined to agree in your case - only it's however-old-you-are-too-late!

Actually, yes they should because stupid kids end up being stupid adults and cost the taxpayer money. Our society has eliminated survival of the fittest and we are gonna breed ourselves into extinction.

Rich has a good point that 'big brother' is continuing to put the proverbial leash up our a sses to monitor, fine and control every bit of our lives.

When it comes to adults, I totally agree that there should be almost no laws "protecting" us from ourselves. When it comes to children, however, I disagree. Unfortunately, many parents are way to stupid to do what's right and safe for their kids, thereby making these annoying laws necessary. This is just another area where most Americans cannot distinguish between the sides in an issue. Seat belt laws are for personal injuries, harming no one outside your own vehicle, therfore I don't like those laws (I do use seatbelts because they are safer in most accidents). Drunk driving, on the other hand is a law that is necessary because driving while under the influence of any substance, can, and does, hurt or kill, other people outside of your vehicle. Two diffeent aspects of a similar issue - laws "protecting" us.

Republicans want to put government in our back seats.

All politicians do. It isn't just one party. I find it offensive. Like I need these idiots to keep my grandchild from harm? To "regulate" my dog? How arrogant can people get? How much mental illness are we prepared to accept?

ENOUGH!..... Stop with all of these nonsensical, nanny-state rules. Parents are responsible for their own children, not the state legislature.

All of these seatbelt, car seat, booster seat, helmet laws etc. are ridiculous. You cannot legislate an accident-free society. But you can legislate to the point that everyone is in some way a criminal.

Don't give me any "It's for the children" arguments. Kill this bill!
