Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio says a federal agency refused to pick up two illegal immigrants detained by his officers.
The sheriff says this marks the first time in recent years that Immigration and Customs Enforcement refused such a request.
Arpaio questioned the cooperation authorities will get from federal agents who will be called to verify people's status in the enforcement of Arizona's immigration law and be responsible for picking up illegal immigrants.
Federal officials have said they'll help if doing so conforms with their priorities, such as identifying those who threaten public safety.
ICE says the two immigrants didn't have criminal histories and referred Arpaio's office to the Border Patrol.
Arpaio wouldn't say whether deputies used Arizona's immigration law in detaining the immigrants.
The Border Patrol took custody of the pair.

Illegal immigration is a problem. With that said, I find anything Arpaio says to be suspect. He plays victim and is not the right guy for the job. I do hope he is voted out and we can get a sheriff that can do the entire job without wasting tax money and no media circus!

Arpaio was told from the start that ICE would not arrest them unless they had committed criminal acts. Arpaio has committed criminal acts in the past and no one has arrested him right? and you Arizona racists Willie- you wrote that Ice said they hadn't committed any crimes right? then what crimes aside from possibly being illegal do you know they committed? just be real and have the grape NUTS to admit that you are all racists, which most in here know you are based on your history of posts. Lots of arizona mostly those in the tea part and GOP are racists in nature. As a life long democrat who has voted for republican presidents for the last 30 or so years will make a change and vote for Obama more as a protest vote against the Arizona GOP party. There are a couple of GOP politicians that deserve my vote but they will not get it because of that.

The crimes of entering our country illegally, forged government documents (drivers license), forged or stolen SS numbers, driving without valid license or insurance, lying on I-9 forms, misdemeanor burglary and theft, identy theft, filing false tax returns for enormous refunds thay are not entitled to, working for 'under the table' cash, etc. are all A-OK under the Obama administration. I hate to say it but Obama has definitely violated his oath of office by telling ICE to not enforce the law equally. He has discriminated among criminals. EVERY illegal alien has committed the crime of illegal entry and MOST have comitted the crime of identity theft or using a false Social Security number in order to work.
Multiple crimes at the very least.
What is the Border Patrol supposed to do with them?
Don't they turn people THEY catch over to ICE also?
Or does the Border Patrol deport illegals on it's own?

Rited: It appears that you have all of the facts and not the ones presented in this article. As i recall, the border patrol only has jurisdiction for a certain number of miles from the border and after that ICE takes over jurisdiction. By the way, human smuggling is a federal offense. Take the time to do your research. I would go on but I seriously doubt you would listen to reason anyway.

juggernaut, your paranoia is getting worse. Our illustrious sherif hands them over to the wrong agency and when he eventually turned them over to the right one, they secured them. So what's the problem here and why is he taking this to the press? and what does your opinion of obama have anything to do with it? And voter, explain to me please how being smuggled, or smuggling or just simply being here is a violent crime? I didn't think so. I think this is a case of arpaio being out of the news way too long, he has his but in a crack over his past antics and so, he is pushing back and trying to regain his suppor.
