A Phoenix defense attorney was sentenced Friday to four years in prison and seven years probation for smuggling heroin and a cell phone into a jail.

Authorities say Jason Keller delivered the contraband to a client who was a member of the Mexican Mafia.

He admitted the crimes during his sentencing in Maricopa County Superior Court.

Prosecutors asked for an aggravated sentence that could have landed Keller in prison for up to 10 years.

But a judge found Keller was remorseful, had no criminal record, was clinically depressed and suffered from substance abuse.
