BENSON — Arizona Department of Public Safety officers say they seized two large marijuana loads in Cochise County in about an 18-hour span.

A DPS officer stopped a pickup truck Thursday afternoon for a driving violation on Interstate 10 one mile west of Benson and 115 pounds of marijuana were found in the vehicle's engine compartment.

The car's driver — a 34-year-old Peoria man — was booked into the county jail on drug possession charges.

On Friday morning, another DPS officer tried to stop a speeding pickup on I-10 three miles east of Benson when the driver and passenger bailed out of the vehicle and fled on foot.

Located in the truck's passenger compartment was 95 pounds of marijuana.

The DPS says the vehicle's two occupants — a 30-year-old Douglas man and 19-year-old Mexican citizen — were arrested on drug charges.
