An Army National Guard unit based in Casa Grande has been scheduled for a deployment to Afghanistan.

Alpha Company of the 422nd Expeditionary Signal Battalion is made up of 119 soldiers from across Arizona, with eight others from Nevada and two volunteers from Alaska and Delaware.

The unit will leave Saturday for about a month of training in Fort Lewis, Wash. before they depart for Afghanistan.

Family members, friends, fellow soldiers and other well-wishers will attend a send-off ceremony for the soldiers at 10 a.m. Saturday at Papago Park Military Reservation in Phoenix.

Col. Matthew Brown, director of the Arizona Army National Guard, will preside over the ceremony.
