Wildlife agency declares Lake Powell mussel free
PAGE, Ariz. (AP) - The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources has officially ruled Lake Powell mussel-free three years after a false positive detection.
The National Park Service says the zebra and quagga mussel rating for Lake Powell was recently changed from inconclusive to negative.
Glen Canyon National Recreation Area superintendent Stan Austin says a negative rating in this case is a good thing.
NPS aquatic ecologist Mark Anderson says the false positive results in 2007 were always in question and that the new mussel-free rating has lifted everyone's confidence level.
