FLAGSTAFF - All southbound lanes of Interstate 17 about 30 miles south of Flagstaff are open after a fatal crash involving hazardous materials Monday morning.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety identified the driver as Roland James Baca, 45, of New Mexico.

Baca was operating a tractor-trailer loaded with a hazardous material called Benzyl Trimethyl Ammonium, according to a DPS news release. The cause of the one-vehicle fatal collision is still under investigation.

It was reported that 20-30 containers of the toxic substance were compromised, DPS said.

Baca lost control of his rig and slammed into rocks and boulders in the median, DPS spokesman Bart Graves said.
