A surprise awaits Arizonans at the pump this weekend – the lowest Memorial Day fuel price in three years. This week, Arizona’s average is up less than a penny to $3.450 per gallon. Nationally, prices rose 5.8 cents to $3.659 per gallon.

The statewide average last year for Memorial Day weekend was $3.760. In 2011, it was $3.689. Prices were last below 2013 prices in 2010 when the statewide pump price was $2.762.

The East Valley average this week was $3.457, 1.3 cents higher than last week.

“Nearly nine in 10 Arizonans will ‘drive’ their way into summer this weekend,” said Linda Gorman, director of communications and public affairs for AAA Arizona. “With Memorial Day gas prices at a three-year low, it makes sense to kick off summer with a road trip.”

Tucson and Flagstaff hold the low and high state fuel averages at $3.181 and $3.674 per gallon, respectively. South Carolina and North Dakota hold the lowest and highest average prices for the lower 48 states at $3.246 and $4.235 per gallon, respectively.
