Arizona's influenza numbers continue to rise. More than 980 cases of lab-confirmed influenza were reported in the week ending Feb. 19.

Compared to the most recent nonpandemic year - 2007-2008 - influenza cases are up more than 190 percent, a large increase due mostly to the flu season peaking earlier than normal, according to the state Department of Health Services.

Since the start of flu season in late September, more than 6,000 cases have been confirmed. Three pediatric deaths have been tied to influenza.

Because many who are sick do not seek medical care, it is likely there are many more cases of the flu out there.
