It must have been a great day for the White-Anglo-Saxon-Protestant Mormon farmers & ranchers along the Salt River & Phoenix Valley of the Sun...but not the Native-American Papago Indians who farmed & lived along the free-flowing Salt River for a thousand years. Yep, let's not be historical revisionists & leave out how the Salt River Project along with Roosevelt Dam, Apache Lake, Canyon Lake, Sajuaro Lake, etc., served to deprive these Arizona Native-American Indian Tribes of their livelihood & water, forcing them to rely on expensive ground-water pumping from wells that now go down 1000 ft-to-1500 ft in Critical Water areas, hmmmm? Why it seems like "yesterday" that the Central AZ Project (CAP) tried another "end-run" on AZ Native-American Indians by trying to submerge the Ft. McDowell-Yavapai-Apache Indian Tribe reservation by creating another ORME lake with an ORME dam project a few years ago, drowning the Indians out again, huh? Well, since AZ Centennial wonks are trying to be historical revisionists, let's make sure we score one major point for AZ Native-American Indian Tribes: there would be NO CENTRAL_AZ-PROJECT (CAP) without the U.S. Congress approving the BILLION$$$ in loans to the CAP...& the only reason the U.S. Congress approved/appropriated the $$$ was because of top-priority, U.S. obligations in AZ Indian treaties to provide them WATER for their farming & ranching activities...not the carpetbagging WASPs who invaded AZ after the fact, stole the Indian's free-flowing access to Salt River water. So next time the ole "Lone Ranger's" of AZ's Centennial celebration go "Yippie_kai-Yayyy" & knock themselves out patting themselves on the back for building up AZ, how about 3-attaboys &3-way2go's for "Kee-mo-sabay's" sidekick, "Tonto," for funding the BILLION$$$$ it took to build the CAP & "let AZ grow, where water flows!!!"...hehehe.
