SIERRA VISTA — An invitation is going out to first lady Michelle Obama to visit Fort Huachuca in August.
Fort commander Maj. Gen. John Custer and Democratic U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords invited Mrs. Obama to be the keynote speaker at a Women's Equality Day event Aug. 24 as part of the 90th anniversary of the 19th Amendment granting women the right to vote.
Giffords said it would be a tremendous honor if the first lady accepts the invitation.
In his Feb. 2 letter to Mrs. Obama, the general said soldiers, their families and civilians would be delighted and honored to hear her reflections on the importance of this monumental achievement for women.
There's no official word whether Mrs. Obama has accepted the invitation.
