Arizona’s projected budget deficit for fiscal year 2012 is $1 billion, Gov. Jan Brewer told an economic forum hosted by the Mesa Chamber of Commerce on Thursday.

“We’re facing a $1 billion deficit going into fiscal year 2012, which, without new action, will continue to grow in fiscal year 2013,” Brewer said at the forum, held at the Hilton Phoenix/East Mesa.

Arizona faces a projected fiscal 2011 deficit of about $750 million.

At this point, I am sure that someone will recommend more tax cuts for big business and the rich. That will create more jobs that will allow more people to spend money. That , in turn, will lead to higher tax receipts that will help to balance the budget........blah, blah.blah.
Why is it that I feel that more tax increases are in store for the middle class?

“Arizona faces a projected fiscal 2011 deficit of about $750 million.”

    -----------------------------------------------

Gov. Jan Brewer had to deal with former Democrat Gov. Janet Napolitano’s deficit, which was caused by the six years of rampant overspending by Napolitano and Democrat Attorney General Terry Goddard.

When Brewer signed the budget, it balanced on paper only. When the Medicaid shortfall, the ballot propositions and the possible tax-collection shortfall are added up, the state currently faces a deficit of $750 million in the current budget.

The state of Arizona will depend heavily on a growing economy to bring in tax revenue. State lawmakers have relied on one-time fixes to balance its budget instead of making long-term changes.

[wink] Hey Punz23, with the size of this deficit you could lay off every state employee and the budget still won't balance.

The truth and Jan Brewer...beheading, drug mules, balance budget, Arizona will be a third or fourth world state by the time she either dies or leaves office in 2015.

After watching the debate, watching her duck questions and her one issue persona and her uneducated answers to questions, I just don't understand why anyone would vote for this woman. Does this tell me about the intelligence of the voters?

I am amazed that voters are such followers. I read, listen and google information before I vote. I also read and listen to both sides long before voting.

Someone needs to go back and listen to the debate. Jan Brewer did say she balanced the budget.

oh, so the budget isn't balanced afterall... well at least you only missed it by a billion.

I think Jan really doesn't have a clue.

What I have to say about Jan, may get me into the thumbs down, but if anything this woman is honest. Enough to say we have a short fall. She did not say she balanced the budget. She said, she would do what needs to be done, which any agency has to do and we fell short.

I only been here for 18 months, but I did learn one thing about AZ, that it is the good old boys state and there is a lot of mismanagement at the gov't level starting at the top. If AZ doesn't watch itself it could easily become another CA which is totally broke.

So why don't we add another 2% to the state sales tax? If 1% is good, then 2% should be stupendous. Maybe we should go for 3%? Do I hear 4%? I thought the last tax increase we voted for was supposed to close the budget gap... and we fell for it hook line & sinker. All it did was take some of the pressure off the elected politicians to cut the spending and now we're back to where we started.

What would happen if every breathing (and some not breathing) public servant in every nook and cranny of state, county and municiple service, school service police and fire as well as janitors, etc., etc., etc.....took a 20% pay cut?

Jan really has to keep notes and keep her lies straight, she obviously lacks the mental capacity to keep it all straight in her head.

She continues to amaze me. A group of people of supposed average intelligence actually think she can run a state? That's a mind blower. I'm amazed she can dress herself without help.

What?!??! Didn't Jan Brewer say "we had did" balanced the budget? $1 billion shortfall doesn't sound balanced to me!
