PHOENIX — Maricopa County Supervisor Don Stapley has filed with the Federal Election Commission to run for Congressional District 9.
Stapley has already filed to run for re-election for Maricopa County supervisor, but he told The Arizona Republic that he'll formally withdraw from that bid.
He's been a county supervisor for 18 years.
The congressional district consists of parts of Mesa, parts of Chandler, parts of Gilbert, southern part of Scottsdale, north-central Phoenix, and all of Tempe and Ahwatukee.
Stapley has been a supervisor since 1996. He oversees District 2 which includes Fountain Hills, Cave Creek, Carefree, Mesa, Scottsdale and parts of Gilbert and Paradise Valley.
Stapley joins Arizona Air National Guardsman Travis Grantham in the race on the Republican side so far. Three Democrats have announced bids for the seat.
