As a volunteer animal rescuer, I've found that the REAL shame about this issue is that the majority of these animals aren't abandoned or lost; they're the victims of ignorant and/or irresponsible pet owners.

I wish i could do something for these poor kitties, but I have already rescued three wonderful cats and don't have room for more. [sad]
